Are you working with the right publishers?

Are you, as an affiliate marketer, really working with the right publishers? It makes a difference. Some publishers create circumstances that provide you with a great opportunity to profit. Others just “dial it in”, limiting the effectiveness of your affiliate efforts.
A good publisher is going to do more than offer a good product. He or she is also going to offer a good sales page. Even the most skilled affiliate will have a hard time moving a product if the sales page is a dog. Obviously, a top-notch publisher will respect affiliates enough to provide a reasonable commission, too.
A good publisher is going to go the extra mile, too. He or she is going to offer real resources to affiliates to make things even easier. We’re talking about good graphics, sample content, support and anything else an affiliate might be able to use to increase sales.
If you’re not working with the right publishers, you might want to survey your niche again in hopes of finding a better alternative. Smart publishers understand that they need to do their best to take care of affiliates in order to maximize everyone’s profits.
Quality control every step of the way

When we’re building an Internet marketing business, we’re generally working hard and fast to create an infrastructure we can use to encourage growth and progress.
We’re also taught that we can’t sweat every detail and that action trumps perfection every time. We keep our eyes on the prize and we push forward. Sure, we consider quality, but we don’t obsess over doing every last thing “just right”.
That’s actually a smart mindset, but it does come with a risk. It’s possible to lose track of quality completely. It’s easy to let that pro-growth perspective lead to sloppiness. At some point, it’s important to implement quality control measures throughout your online business.
That might involve paying a little more personal attention to details. It might mean outsourcing certain aspects of editing and review to a qualified third party. Whatever form it takes, though, it’s important. You want your messages and your projects to look their best in order to maximize their profit potential.
You don’t need to obsess over every detail, but you can never forget that quality control is important. You ignore it at your peril and it’s something you will need to address if you want to achieve your potential.
Chasing expensive Adsense clicks

In most cases, site monetization via Adsense isn’t the best way to go. Generally speaking, you can secure a higher return on investment by creating a quality site featuring affiliate links to products that sell for substantially more than what you’ll net per Adsense click.
True, the conversion rate will be lower, but the considerably higher value of each conversion can more than make up the difference.
That being said, there are times when Adsense does make sense. Sites designed to attract search engine traffic that are thick with content but short on quality, for instance, might fit that bill. Although Adsense officially opposes these “made for Adsense” (MFA) sites, they can be a workable means of generating income.
Another example is a site that will serve up ads offering high per click values. A site that features ads paying a nickel may be better suited for affiliate sales, but if you can isolate keywords generating a dollar per click, the math rapidly changes.
The problem with chasing expensive Adsense clicks is competition. Adsense-based Internet marketing models exploded in popularity a few years ago and those who are now entering the field may find themselves up against some tough competition, especially in the more lucrative niches.
Why you should be a publisher/product creator

In the big ol’ world of Internet marketing, you can be a product owner or an affiliate. There are good reasons to consider both options. We’ve discussed a few of the pros and cons of affiliate marketing recently and I thought this would be a perfect time to cover a few of the advantages of going the “it’s my product” route.
Initially, being your own product owner/creator gives you a chance to bring your unique vision and ideas into the world. There’s nothing quite like seeing “your baby” succeed in the marketplace. That’s a kind of personal fulfillment that you can’t quite replicate as an affiliate.
Personal fulfillment, however, doesn’t pay the bills. Most of us involved in IM are just as interested in making money and that’s another great reason to consider owning your own product. Instead of being one of many affiliates for someone else, you can be the person who has a collection of affiliates working on his or her behalf. Think of how many sales a good affiliate could make. Now, start multiplying it. When your on the top of the food chain, those multiplied earnings flow in your direction.
There’s a lot of work involved in product creation. There’s work involved in managing affiliates. Successfully launching a new product requires some effort and know-how, too. Being the product owner/creator isn’t necessarily the easiest thing in the world. It is, however, the best way to put yourself in a position to maximize your profits.
Three keys to maintaining your reputation and credibility

Reputation and credibility matter a great deal when it comes to Internet marketing. Although there are scammers who can blow their reputations and still find ways to make money, it requires a great deal of work and a complete lack of conscious to follow that route.
Most of us recognize that our long-term interests will be best served by creating and maintaining a positive reputation. Here are three keys to getting the job done.
First, don’t sell out your principles for quick profits. Resist the urge to peddle a truly valuable commodity (your reputation) in pursuit of smaller quick profits. Always keep your mind on the big picture.
Second, admit mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone understands that. Don’t let your pride or fear of embarrassment stand in the way of admitting errors. The fallout from covering up or lying about miscues is always greater than facing up to them. The Internet marketing scene has a substantial population of people who will be more than willing to call you out on your dishonesty if you don’t just ‘fess up in the face of a blunder.
Third, consider your associations. When you’re considering JV partners or other people with whom to work, keep their reputations in mind. You don’t want to be associated with the “bottom of the barrel” and that means not teaming up with those who have credibility issues or honesty problems.
With a little bit of work and discipline, you can maintain a positive reputation that will help you to create a rock solid Internet marketing business.
Cut your workload and improve your bottom line

Do you want to make more money?
If you do, it might be time to decrease your workload.
No, that’s not a joke. It’s actually some of the better advice you’re going to get.
Take a long look at what you’re doing with your time. Find out where you’re spending grueling hours. Determine where you’re being efficient and profitable. After you’ve performed that audit, it’s time to stop wasting your time and effort on the things that slow you down the most.
Instead, focus your efforts on the things you love and do well. The rest? Find someone else to get the job done. Hire them. That’s right, outsource the work. You’ll be making more money by decreasing your workload and spending more time on the things you do the best.
If you think the biggest and best in the IM field do everything from the ground up with each product, you’re mistaken. They understand where their time is valuable and where it’s wasted. You should do the same.
By decreasing your workload and smartly focusing your efforts, you can actually improve your bottom line. That might run contrary to your “nose to the grindstone” work ethic, but it really is the truth.
Outsourcing and the golden rule

Outsourcing is one of the best ways to free up your most important asset—your time—and to improve your bottom line. Hiring others to handle mundane or specialized functions within your overall Internet marketing plan can be a shortcut to amazing financial success.
In order for it to work, however, it must be done the right way. That involves a lot of different considerations. You need to know how to hire and who to hire. You need to develop the right organization skills. You also need to approach your contract workers with the right attitude.
Too many marketers deal with contractors as if they’re robots. They make demands. They communicate with them in a superior tone. They don’t handle disagreements or questions with civility. It’s sometimes as if outsourcing turns otherwise nice marketers into whip-cracking monsters. That often results in arguments, slow work, and even shoddy products.
That’s not the best way to make outsourcing work for you. You should approach those with whom you’re working with respect, civility, understanding and decency. That’s the best way to forge valuable, lasting relationships and to encourage the best possible work from contractors.
